About the Director

Thomas Coulter has been the owner of Frame by Frame Productions since 1997. He has a combined 25 years experience in radio, television and cable TV production. He has also written and performed many musical compositions that have been included in his projects.

His latest work, The Ku Klux Klan in Oregon: 1920-1923, debuted at the Astoria International Film Festival in October 2009 in Astoria, Oregon.  The documentary won the award for Best Regional Film.

Past projects have included The Oregon Nikkei Story: Japanese Americans in Oregon 1880-1941, which was featured during the Oregon Reads: 150 Year Anniversary Program in April 2009 at the Salem Public Library, in Salem, Oregon. In addition, this documentary was also part of the Brown Bag/Film Lecture Series for a traveling Smithsonian Exhibit, Japanese Americans and the U.S. Constitution: A More Perfect Union, at Multnomah County Public Library in Portland, Oregon in September 1998.

Thomas teamed with producer Amiko Matsumoto for Blurring the Lines, a 30-minute documentary which features interviews with seven college students who have multiracial backgrounds. This project has been seen across several colleges and universities on the west coast of the U.S. as part of ethnic studies programs and lectures and presentations on multicultural issues.

In 2002 Thomas also produced and directed a short film, A Woman for Our Times, which won Honorable Mention in the 2003 Hometown Video Festival based in Washington, D.C. This drama features four original musical numbers that Thomas composed.

Additionally Thomas has produced or directed several projects for private companies, educational institutions and local government agencies.

Thomas has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Communications from Weber State College and a Masters in Business Administration from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management, Willamette University.

He lives in the Portland, Oregon area with his wife Renee` and their dog, Cookie.
